As per the Hindu calendar,  the Chaturthi Tithi of Krishna Paksha is celebrated as Sakat Chauth. Apart from Sakat Chauth, this fast is known by other names like Sankashti Chaturthi, Tilkut, Magh Chaturthi etc. Thre are two Chaturthis, one is in Shukla Paksha which is known as Vinayaki Chaturthi and other in Krishna Paksha which is known as Sankashti Chaturthi. In the fast of Sakat Chauth Lord Ganesha is worshiped as he the diety who defeats all crises. Ganesh ji is worshiped on this day. After this, the fast is passed by offering Arghya to the moon. Sakat Chauth fast is especially kept by women for healthy and prosperous life of their children. It is believed that by observing this fast, Ganesh, the remover of obstacles, removes all the troubles of the children.

Sakat Chauth Puja Vidhi 

On the day of Sakat Chauth, in the morning wake up early and take a bath. Wear red clothes while doing puja. After this worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. Keep fasting throughout the day and avoid eating food & drinking water. At Night, worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Laxmi. Also worship moon with Arghya. To break fast eat fruits. 

On the occasion of Chaturthi, most of the people having fast(vrat). Never eat salt(not even rock salt). Eat sweet dishes like fruit salads or juice or milk. At the time of Ganesh puja offering 21 Durvas, sindoor, agarbatti and chant Ganesh mantra, which is very fruitful and auspicious for everyone. We all know that Ganesh ji loves laddoos and modak, so offer them too while worshiping on this day. Sugarcane, jaggary, sweetpotatoes and some other sweets also can be considerd at the time of puja. Specially sesame seed and jaggery mixed laddoos are important on this occasion.

Sakat Chauth 2023 Mantra

While worshiping Lord Ganesha on the day of Sakat Chaturthi, do chant Om Ganapataye Namah, Om Sarvasiddhapradaya Namah or Om Ekadantaya Namah. This will remove all your troubles. After this, listen to the story of Sakat Chauth Vrat at the end and perform aarti. On this day and night, observe the Sakat Chauth fast by offering Arghya to the moon.

Significance of Sakat Chauth

It is a religious belief that keeping the fast of Sakat Chauth pleases Gauri's son Shri Ganesh and protects him from all troubles. In the scriptures, the Chaturthi of the month of Magh has been described as the most important, because on this day Lord Ganesha had circumambulated Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. Those who worship Vighnaharta Shri Ganesha on the day of Sakat Chauth, all their wishes are fulfilled.
